Who We Are
A Heart for People, Inc. was officially founded in May 2023, but our roots run far deeper. For over two decades, Co-Founders Pastor Ulysses Johnson and Lady Clementine Johnson have been faithfully serving the greater Pensacola area—distributing food, hygiene items, and essential supplies to individuals and families in need. What began as a small, heartfelt outreach to 25 people each week has grown into a vital regional lifeline, now reaching over 2,000 individuals monthly. Our story is one of faith, family, and service. Pastor Johnson, a Vietnam-disabled Army veteran who grew up on a farm in Evergreen, Alabama, has devoted more than 40 years to pastoring Anew Warrington Church of God in Christ (COGIC), mentoring and training young people to become leaders and pastors. He was honored as “Father of the Year” by the City of Pensacola and WEAR TV’s Sue Straughn, recognized for his impact across Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties. Lady Clementine Johnson, our CEO, brings over 40 years of nursing experience, having worked in emergency rooms, mental health, the State Health Department, home health, and the federal VA clinic. Her nurturing spirit and clinical expertise have shaped the compassionate, holistic approach we take to serving our community. Together, they have raised seven children—including an adopted child with special needs—all of whom graduated college and built successful careers. Their family legacy now extends to 17 grandchildren and continues through A Heart for People, Inc. Our organization is founded on the belief that service is not only about giving—it’s about empowering. Through food distribution and our newest initiative—farming and sustainability training—we are helping underserved families and youth not only survive but thrive. We’re planting seeds of dignity, skill, and hope that will grow for generations to come. Geographic Area Served (200 words or less): A Heart for People, Inc. primarily serves the greater Pensacola Bay Area, including Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Our outreach spans urban, rural, and underserved neighborhoods throughout Pensacola and surrounding communities. We provide food, hygiene supplies, and critical resources to individuals and families facing hardship—including seniors, homeless populations, veterans, multicultural and LGBTQIA individuals, and children’s programs across the region
