Senior Chill Out
Senior Chill Out is a signature event for the Council on Aging, where we partner with WEAR ABC3, Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores and Pete Moore Chevrolet. The event, which will be held on Friday, June 2nd, is an all-day event from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at all area Lowe’s stores in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. We spend the day seeking/taking donations of new window-unit air conditioners and/or box fans at the Lowe’s stores. Our media partner, WEAR ABC3 broadcasts updates throughout the day giving viewers information on how they can participate and a general overview of the number of air conditioners and fans that have been donated. All the air conditioners and fans that are collected are donated to area senior citizens over the age of 60 who do not have air conditioning in their homes or have inadequate cooling in their homes.
For the event, we seek volunteers to assist us at the Lowe’s sites during the day (four 3-hours shifts) of the event, and at the COA main office unloading donated air conditioners and fans that have been donated (two 4-hours shifts) on Friday, June 2nd. After the event, we will be seeking volunteers to assist us with contacting potential recipients via telephone (Monday, June 5th - Friday, June 9th – five volunteers working a 3-hour shift from 8 :00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and volunteers to assist us with loading donated air conditioners and fans (Tuesday, June 6th - Friday, June 16th – four volunteers working a 3-hour shift from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Volunteer groups are encouraged to wear shirts/t-shirts with their business/group logo to show support for the event.
